The journey to read through the bible in one year. One thought and one verse from every book and chapter of the bible…
EXODUS 5
Exodus 5:2 Pharaoh said, “Who is the Lord, that I should obey him and let Israel go? I do not know the Lord and I will not let Israel go.
When people dont know who the God that we serve is or what He is about, then it is true...there is no need to worry or think or fear or bother to wonder about Him. As Christians, we are ALL given the command by Jesus Himself to tells others about who He is. I think that we miss the mark on this one. When was the last time that you shared your faith with others? When was the last time that you reached on and loved on people the way that God has told us to? His call isnt to the mundane and methodical...but to the radical and faithful. Live it out.
EXODUS 6
Exodus 6:12 But Moses said to the Lord, “If the Israelites will not listen to me, why would Pharaoh listen to me, since I speak with faltering lips?
I have felt what Moses feel here so many times. The calling is clear...I mean Moses experienced God from a freaking burning bush! But we still find him so full of doubt and excuses. I wonder how many times we exasperate God. I am so good in knowing what I should do and what I am called to and like Moses, trying to convince myself and God that it isnt what I am really to do. I dont want to just go through the motions with Christ...God help me to not question but to follow and obey.
EXODUS 7
Exodus 7:3 But I will harden Pharaoh’s heart...
Why? Why would God choose to do that?
Exodus 7:5 And the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord when I stretch out my hand against Egypt and bring the Israelites out of it.”
The answer...
God is never left without a plan or knowing what He is going to do. His plan to harden the heart of Pharaoh was so that ultimately He would be KNOWN in a way that there wouldnt be a doubt. Dont get lost in losing trust in what God is doing in your life. He will bring you through...
EXODUS 8
Exodus 8:19 the magicians said to Pharaoh, “This is the finger of God.” But Pharaoh’s heart was hard and he would not listen, just as the Lord had said.
Honestly, I often have a hard heart as well. People around me are talking about, showing me, and pointing me to Christ, but I resist. I choose to see it my way. Or choose to justify action...or lack of action. Our hearts are often closed to God and what He has called us to. If they werent, the church wouldnt look just like the World. It bothers me...and the change has to start with me. The comparison cant be to anyone but God and what He has called us to in His Word.
EXODUS 9
Exodus 9:20-21 Those officials of Pharaoh who feared the word of the Lord hurried to bring their slaves and their livestock inside. 21 But those who ignored the word of the Lord left their slaves and livestock in the field.
I love that some of the officials in Egypt recognized the power of God. They saw that He what He said He was going to do WAS going to happen! And because they had experienced it, they knew that they had to take action. Today, I challenge you to see God for who He is...for the things that He calls you and me to...and act on the experiences that you have had and what you know you need to do...

Such a good post, Josh! I really appreciate how you broke your reading down on this post. Really makes you think about where my own heart is hardened and not wanting to change.
