Our call to live out our faith

The journey to read through the bible in one year. One thought and one verse from every book and chapter of the bible…

GENESIS 25
Genesis 25: 32 “Look, I am about to die,” Esau said. “What good is the birthright to me?”

The birthright wasnt just a thing...it was THE thing. It was the leadership...the family name...the wealth...the direction...the legacy...it was EVERYTHING and the ONLY thing. And Esau just sells it out so quickly. Without a second thought for a bowl of lentil stew and some bread. The most precious thing that he owns. But isnt that also far to true about us? We sell out on our relationship with God SO often without a second thought because we are "hungry" for something else. Maybe it is time...maybe not sharing our faith...maybe just going through the motions...maybe not tithing...drinking, swearing, pornography, whatever it might be. That needs to end. Being a Christian is a call to a life that is radical...different. Does it ever bother ANYONE else that we look so much like the World? Being a Christian in America scares me...because I read the Bible...I see the things that we are called to, and I see so few living it out. And that is people in the church...time for ALL of us to look at ourselves and begin to TRULY live the life that God has called us to.

GENESIS 26
Genesis 26: 25 Isaac built an altar there and called on the name of the Lord. There he pitched his tent, and there his servants dug a well.

Another example of the importance of regularly being in communication with and giving praise to God. I think far too often when we pray it is only about major needs that we have in our life. We need to remember to give Him the thanks and adoration that He deserves.

GENESIS 27
Genesis 27:5-10 Now Rebekah was listening as Isaac spoke to his son Esau. When Esau left for the open country to hunt game and bring it back, Rebekah said to her son Jacob, “Look, I overheard your father say to your brother Esau, ‘Bring me some game and prepare me some tasty food to eat, so that I may give you my blessing in the presence of the Lord before I die.’ Now, my son, listen carefully and do what I tell you: Go out to the flock and bring me two choice young goats, so I can prepare some tasty food for your father, just the way he likes it.10 Then take it to your father to eat, so that he may give you his blessing before he dies.”

Crazy to me that Rebekah is the one that leads the deceit. Another example that this family struggled so mightily with telling the truth. Reminds me that as a father, my wife and son are picking up on everything that I am doing. Both the good and the bad...

Matthew 7
Matthew 7:21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven."

Another chapter that I could write a book on...but had to limit it down to just one verse. This verse is crazy. As I stated above, this is just another reminder of how tough it is to be a christian. It isnt a call to go through some motion...or to simply go to church...or read the bible...or be spiritual enough...but a call to sell out on EVERYTHING that we have. How many of us can say that we follow the will of our Father in all that we do? It is NOT a call to perfection, but it is a call to giving Him EVERYTHING...
