The journey to read through the bible in one year. One thought and one verse from every book and chapter of the bible…
GENESIS 43
Genesis 43:23 “It’s all right,” he said. “Don’t be afraid. Your God, the God of your father, has given you treasure in your sacks; I received your silver.” Then he brought Simeon out to them.
In this passage we find a servant of Joseph talking to his brothers...and I love the fact that God has established Himself. Even this servant recognized the power of this God and knew that He was someone to be reckoned with. We underestimate and forget how powerful and awesome that our God is. He is seen by others. We also need to recognize and see Him. \
GENESIS 44
Genesis 44:18 Then Judah went up to him and said: “Pardon your servant, my lord, let me speak a word to my lord. Do not be angry with your servant, though you are equal to Pharaoh himself.
I love seeing the way the Joseph's brothers have changed. Judah has gone from someone that was helping lead the way in selling off Joseph, to someone that is fighting for Benjamin...even being willing to put his own life on the line for him. It is a reminder to me that God is ALWAYS working in peoples lives. People are constantly being molded and changing...we sometimes forget the big picture and get so focused on one small part, or one section of a story that we write them off forever. But God never does. I love that He is working to change us...How are we allowing Him to change us today?
GENESIS 45
Genesis 45:1-2 Then Joseph could no longer control himself before all his attendants, and he cried out, “Have everyone leave my presence!” So there was no one with Joseph when he made himself known to his brothers. 2 And he wept so loudly that the Egyptians heard him, and Pharaoh’s household heard about it.
This passage honestly made me laugh! I love the fact that the Bible records a rumor and gossip mill that will rival anything that we have today! Word spread quickly of Joesph's tears...and everyone couldnt wait to tell the next person so that EVERYONE heard about it! lol...at much as things change...things always stay the same...
MATTHEW 12
Matthew 12:36-37 But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. 37 For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”
We all know the old nursery rhyme...sticks and stones will break my bones but names will never hurt me...and we also know how much of a mockery that statement is. Words effect us...change us...kill us...we put so much stock into what we hear from others. And even if we say we dont, we all know that at some level we do. This passage convicted me more then any that I have read in awhile. Every empty word that I have spoken? That scares me...I have had a ton of empty words...ones that I am ashamed of...ones that I know have brought down others...ones that havent given glory to God. If my goal is to be different...be radical...to not settle...then this area I need to work on. I dont want to use empty words. I dont want to bring people down...or dishonor God. I want my life to be His. I want to glorify Him in all that I do. Maybe today I need to put a piece of ductape on my mouth...
