The journey to read through the bible in one year. One thought and one verse from every book and chapter of the bible...

GENESIS 1
Genesis 1:1 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
I love this verse. It is one of the more well known passages in the Bible and so maybe it seems a little to cliche to pick this one right from the very beginning. But I love the fact that right in the very first chapter of the bible, it is so clear to see that God has a plan.
Earlier tonight as I was putting to bed our 2 year old son, we were reading in his children picture Bible the account of creation. And as we looked at the pictures, I was hit by the thought that I take this world, the creation, my very existence so often for granted. When was the last time that I sat back and just was in awe of what is around me? When was the last time that I was in awe of the magnificence of the creation of my son? And to be able to sit back and think that all of this is from a God that didnt just randomly do all this...but had a plan of action...I love that...
GENESIS 2
Genesis 2:9 and the Lord God made all kinds of trees to grow out of the ground - trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food...
A few weeks ago, I was speaking to our senior high on a Sunday Morning, and talked about how many different types of trees that He created. It is over 100,000! 100,000 freaking thousand! I mean to most of people we would say 1000 or even 10000 is phenomenal but our God is such an extravagant God! He doesn't just settle for doing something that is average or even above average...but is constantly BLOWING OUR MINDS WITH HOW AWESOME HE IS. Think about it...I moan, complain, and find myself always stressed and worried about what is going on. But this God...CREATED ME...and 100000 plus species of trees. He doesnt just settle. He is extravagant Thank you Lord for the amazing beauty and mind blowing amazingness of your creation. Dont let me see the world and gloss over just how amazing that it truly is...
GENESIS 3
Genesis 3:8 Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as He was walking through the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees in the garden...
When I was younger I used to always laugh at the thought of Adam and Eve trying to hide from God. Even to a young child it just seemed to be so downright foolish. Like they could really pull that one off! Trying to play hide and seek with Him would be the absolute worst ever! "There you are...there you are...there you are!" Yet when Adam and Eve sin, this is where we find them...hiding in the trees...trying to get and stay as far away from God as possible. If I am honest...I am no different then them. When I find myself knowingly sinning, I some how convince myself that I can hide from Him as well. How foolish. Tonight I found myself taking an honest look at my life...the areas that I have been hiding from Him in the trees...and asking him to forgive. I dont want to live in the trees, the shadows, and the darkness, but I want to live in the light...

Matthew 1
Matthew 1:24 when Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord commanded him and took Mary home as his wife...
The faith and strength of Joseph fills me with awe. In my mind, he is one of the most courageous people in all of scripture. I cant imagine the anger, the conflict, the emotions that would have been pouring through him upon finding out that Mary was pregnant. To hear from God and to truly trust and believe in the plan is awesome. I hope that I have the courage to do whatever God tells me that I need to do...
