GENESIS 13
GENESIS 13:18 So Abram went to live near the great trees of Mamre at Hebron, where he pitched his tents. There he built an altar to the Lord.
In Genesis 13, I love the fact that multiple times...pretty much anywhere that Abram went, he would set up and build an alter to the Lord. So far in his story, it has been the one constant. He was constantly recognizing his Creator. I wish I recognized that need more often...
Genesis 14
Genesis 14:18-20 18 Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine.He was priest of God Most High, 19 and he blessed Abram, saying,
“Blessed be Abram by God Most High,
Creator of heaven and earth.
20 And praise be to God Most High,
who delivered your enemies into your hand.”
Creator of heaven and earth.
20 And praise be to God Most High,
who delivered your enemies into your hand.”
Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything.
In this passage, we see the very first recorded tithe. Amazing and awesome to me that God has had this type of plan in place right from the very beginning. He had a plan for His church. And we play a role in keeping with that plan.
GENESIS 15
Genesis 15:1 ...the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision:
“Do not be afraid, Abram.
I am your shield,
your very great reward.
I am your shield,
your very great reward.
Far too often I am left inactive due to fear. It is a paralyzing, and crippling feeling. I am afraid of what others are going to think or say, I am afraid that I am going to be labeled as radical or crazy...it is amazing the excuses that we will come up with when we are faced with situations that we feel can be uncertain. That is why I loved this verse. God is a shield to Abram. He is the one protecting and shielding Abram! What would it look like if you just really believed this truth? That God is our shield and there literally IS nothing to fear? Our lives would be different. Both inside AND outside the church.
Matthew 5
Matthew 5:23-24 “Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, 24 leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift.
The Sermon on the Mount is one favorite passages in all of scripture. There is so much truth in this sermon (the greatest sermon ever preached) that it is going to be super tough over the next few days to limit it to one thought!
I chose this passage because this is something that as Christians we just dont live out. Far too many of us carry around so much bitterness, anger, resentment, jealousy, and frustration towards people in our lives. And that is just against people INSIDE the church. We need to live this principle out. You want to be someone that is serving the BEST to God...then begin to live this one out. There are hard conversations, and actions that we need to begin to take. Not tomorrow...today...
So far to date...
