Godly advice and forgiving from the heart

The journey to read through the bible in one year. One thought and one verse from every book and chapter of the bible…

EXODUS 16
Exodus 16:30  So the people rested on the seventh day.

It is so important that we take time for ourselves and rest! This past week for me has been crazy! Class started on Thursday night, I did pre-marital counseling with two different couples, and Friday, my normal day off, we hosted a large worship event with multiple churches that were involved. This meant that I was at church all day on Friday...on top of my normal crazy work week. Maybe you feel like me today...I need rest. And it is good! And we need it. We need to not feel guilty about taking the time that we need to rest, recover, and recoup after big events. god instituted rest. Take advantage of a nap the next time that you get a chance...and be renewed!

EXODUS 17
Exodus 17:11-12 As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning.12 When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset.

Maybe a little cliche for this one, but just a reminder how important that it is to have people who are on our side and have our back. When I get tired or weary...it is awesome to know that I have people on my side that have my back! Makes me thankful for the friends that I have in my life...

EXODUS 18
Exodus 18:24-26  Moses listened to his father-in-law and did everything he said. 25 He chose capable men from all Israel and made them leaders of the people, officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens. 26 They served as judges for the people at all times. The difficult cases they brought to Moses, but the simple ones they decided themselves.

It is important to have Godly advice! How important for Moses that he was able to receive this advice from his father-in-law. I love that he had an outside person that was able to come in, get an overview of what was happening, and help. It reminds me that we sometimes need to have outside people come in, that are Godly, full of wisdom and provide that perspective.

MATTHEW 18
Matthew 18:35  “This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother or sister from your heart.”

Go and read the parable of the unmerciful servant. It is found at the end of Matthew 18. Really compelling stuff. But the end verse is SO HUGE...how many of us are carrying around bitterness, jealousies  anger, and resentment towards people? Some that maybe they are aware of...and some that no one knows about. Let the words of Jesus sink in. Forgive from your heart. I need to go and do some soul searching...and need to begin to reconcile and forgive some people in my life, not just in word...but in heart...
