Attitude effects all, and Rest for the weary

The journey to read through the bible in one year. One thought and one verse from every book and chapter of the bible…

GENESIS 40
Genesis 40:4 The captain of the guard assigned them to Joseph, and he attended them.

I love that Joseph always made the most out of his circumstances. Even in being unjustly put into prison, we find that he has elevated himself enough to be in charge of some of the prisoners. I would think that if I was in prison wrongfully, my attitude wouldnt be all that great. I would be fighting with everything that I had to get myself out...to make sure that everyone knew of my injustice and thinking about myself. But Joseph, instead of only focusing on himself, has made the most of what has been dealt to him. I wish that I had the attitude that Joseph had. In times of difficulty, how do we respond?

GENESIS 41
GENESIS 41:49 Joseph stored up huge quantities of grain, like the sand of the sea; it was so much that he stopped keeping records because it was beyond measure.

This verse shows us how important that it is to be prepared. I believe in our need to show AND have reliance and dependence on God, but we also need to use the wisdom that He has given us. Are we taking advantage of the blessing the God has given us for the future, or just freely doing what we want with little or no regard to the future?

GENESIS 42
Genesis 42:36-38 36 Their father Jacob said to them, “You have deprived me of my children. Joseph is no more and Simeon is no more, and now you want to take Benjamin. Everything is against me!
37 Then Reuben said to his father, “You may put both of my sons to death if I do not bring him back to you. Entrust him to my care, and I will bring him back.”
38 But Jacob said, “My son will not go down there with you; his brother is dead and he is the only one left. If harm comes to him on the journey you are taking, you will bring my gray head down to the grave in sorrow.

Jacob, in his anger, sadness  and other emotions of the moment forgets his need for dependence and trust in God. He uses statement like, "everyone is against me", and is willing to let one of his sons go...literally be in prison forever so that he can protect another. There is no mention of looking to God...seeking Him...or even asking God for the wisdom of what to do. Just a flat refusal to do anything except "circle the wagons". Stands out to me, that we need to ALWAYS have a dependence on Him...and ALWAYS look to Him for the direction, guidance, and prudence that we need.

MATTHEW 11
Matthew 11:28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

This verse really stood out to me. I love the fact that Jesus tells us that there is freedom and that burden's are lifted when we come to Him. Lately, life has been a struggle. It has seemed like one thing after another has fallen onto my plate, and it has been taxing not only physically, but emotionally and spiritually. I feel like I have to be so many things to so many people so that THEY can get support that they need from me. And I am thankful that God has allowed me to be put into that position. But what happens when I need support and rest? What happens when I feel weary and burdened down? We can find the rest that we need in Christ. There is a freedom...a strength...and a comfort and healing that can take place. I can find my strength in Him. He is all that I need and SO...MUCH...MORE...Thank you Lord for always being willing to let me come to you, and to give me the strength and energy that I need to continue. For when I am weak, then you are strong.
