Are our lives truly transformed?

The journey to read through the bible in one year. One thought and one verse from every book and chapter of the bible…

Exodus 19
Exodus 19:16 On the morning of the third day there was thunder and lightning, with a thick cloud over the mountain, and a very loud trumpet blast. Everyone in the camp trembled.

This morning I am reminded of the power of God. When God showed up to speak to the people of Israel at Mount Sinai, it was so awesome and powerful that the people where literally trembling with fear. We often times underestimate the power and depth of who God is. He can anything that He wants at any point and time. If we know that He is on our side, then who can we fear? No one...

Exodus 20
Exodus 20:1  And God spoke all these words:

I forget that we were created in the image of God. What would it be like to hear Him audibly speak? Since none of us have ever heard from Him in an audible way, we can forget that He exists. He isnt a ghost...or a vapor...or a mist...but someone that has the capability of speaking and talking. When God tells us things, we often try to explain it away...or we say things like..."if I only HEARD Him say it"...and we forget that He has. He isnt a joke...someone to take lightly or blow off. He is God. And when He speaks, we need to listen.

Exodus 21
Exodus 21:12-14 12 “Anyone who strikes a person with a fatal blow is to be put to death. 13 However, if it is not done intentionally, but God lets it happen, they are to flee to a place I will designate.14 But if anyone schemes and kills someone deliberately, that person is to be taken from my altar and put to death.

I love the fact that God had systems and plans in place to make society a just and fair place to live. I love even more the fact that He establishes for His people an understanding that there are consequences for the actions that we take. In our society today, I fear that far more then we should, we allow people off the hook...or we excuse away things that people do as "environment" or "not there fault". At the end of our lives, all of us. ALL OF US...are going to have to stand before God and give an account for everything that we have done. And in that moment...there isnt going to be any excusing away...but there will be consequences. We need to remember that the battle that we have against sin is literally life or death. Are we trying to do all that we can to live differently and battle against the sins in our live? Or do we deceive ourselves by justifying them or thinking that it isnt THAT big of a deal. We need to deal with sin now. Not tomorrow or tonight. Now. Our spiritual lives can depend on it...

Matthew 19
Matthew 19:21-22 21 Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
22 When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.

For this man it was his great wealth. What is it for you and for me that keeps us from totally selling out and following Him? Because it HAS to be an all or nothing thing. There is NO in between. And is it time that as a church we wake up and recognize that. Why is it that the church looks so much like EVERYTHING and EVERYONE else? Why are we not more bothered by the lost, the hurting, the broken, the sins in our lives, the lack of zeal and fervor...God has called us to GIVE IT ALL. Are you doing that? Or are there things that you are holding onto. And dont be too quick to answer this question. We all need to spend time looking and searching. The rich young ruler went away sad. We cant afford to make that mistake and not give Him ALL and EVERYTHING that we have...
