The journey to read through the bible in one year. One thought and one verse from every book and chapter of the bible…
Leviticus 14
Leviticus 14:54-57 54 “These are the instructions for dealing with serious skin diseases, including scabby sores; 55 and mildew, whether on clothing or in a house; 56 and a swelling on the skin, a rash, or discolored skin. 57 This procedure will determine whether a person or object is ceremonially clean or unclean. “These are the instructions regarding skin diseases and mildew.”
God was telling the Israelites how to avoid or diagnose contagious or infectious skin diseases and mildew so they could avoid them or treat them. These laws were given for the protection of the peoples health. I am sure that not all of the laws made any kind of sense to the people, but their obedience to them was crucial. Reminded me that today, not all of the things that God calls us to makes the most sense to us. We need to be willing to trust that He knows what is best for us (which He does!) and obey the things that He is calling us to. We may not always understand the wisdom of God's laws, but if we obey them, we WILL thrive!
Leviticus 15
Leviticus 15:12 Any clay pot the man touches must be broken, and any wooden utensil he touches must be rinsed with water.
This chapter had to do with the always popular topic of laws and regulations concerning bodily discharges...not always the most pleasant read! But the thing that stood out to me about this chapter, was just the thought of how detailed God was in what He wanted from His people. He described in detail how they needed to respond to uncleanliness. Reminded me that He leaves nothing to chance. He clearly lays out the BEST way that we can live and follow Him...we just need to choose to do so!
Leviticus 16
Leviticus 16:3 When Aaron enters the sanctuary area, he must follow these instructions fully.
Aaron had to spend hours and days in preparation of meeting God. But as I have talked about before, we can approach God anytime that we want! But I dont want to forget the holiness that He has, nor to take that privilege for granted and approach carelessly. The easy access to God SHOULD NOT eliminate our need to prepare our hearts and we draw near to Him...
Leviticus 17
Leviticus 17:7 The people must no longer be unfaithful to the Lord by offering sacrifices to the evil spirits. This is a permanent law for them, to be observed from generation to generation.
This practice was one that was commonplace in Egypt and the Israelites would have easily picked up and made this a common practice. God made it crystal clear that this was an unacceptable practice. In our lives, we no longer offer physical sacrifices of animals or birds to idols but we need to remember that anything that we place in front of our relationship with God can potentially be or become an idol if we dont work to put it second. God is clear with His call to His people, we can not afford to put anything in front of Him.
Matthew 27
Matthew 27:45-46 45 At noon, darkness fell across the whole land until three o’clock. 46 At about three o’clock, Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
One of the hardest chapters to read in all of scripture. The brutal torture, trial, and death of our Savior. To know that God had forsaken you would be the hardest thing ever. And to know that He did that for you and me just makes it all the more amazing. That is a true love. We need to read through this chapter on a regular basis to remind ourselves of what God did. The sacrifice that He made. And the love that He has for you and me...
